Who's In The Band?
macbeth's bodyguard was founded by singer/songwriter Justin P. Naughton in 1993. They did their first gig at the Brecnock Hotel around Christmas time as a once-off gig. But the response of the audience was so positive that Justin decided to make the band permanent, and from that point on set out to set up a professional outfit.
The level of professionalism with which he did this was aknowledged by his peers in the industry by their attendance at his gigs and by his television appearences; twice on the news as one of the prime contenders for the Port Power club song with Robyn Habel And Teni Burns. He also appeared on national television on Hey Hey It's Saturday and on the children's television show The Book Place (channel 7). Justin was featured on page 7 of The Advertiser with Robyn and Teni.
Female vocalists Kate Boumelha and Naomi Crellin are leaders of the Adelaide Girls Chior which has toured Europe twice and won first place in an international choral competition against 170 other world-class choirs. They have appeared on various television and radio broadcasts both with the chior and in their own A Capella Quartet, Pure Harmony. Both of them will be studying at the Adelaide's Elder Conservatorium of Music this year.
Mike Boundy, former bass player with the nationally and internationally famous band Seven Stories joined Macbeth's Bodyguard in early 1996 under the provision that drummer Steve MacBeth also joined the band.
What Is Macbeth's Bodyguard's Performance/ Recording History?
macbeth's bodyguard, Adelaide's premier rock/ballads outfit, has been occasinally been playing around the traps for the last four years. These performances have been orchestrated with the view to presenting the audience with a show rather than just a gig. Audiences of quite various age and social groups have consistently responded to these shows with extreme enthusiasm.
As a result, macbeth's bodyguard have decided to release an EP CD with four of their best loved original songs on it. This EP was produced by Jim Paterson from Dexy's Midnight Runners and was engineered by Martin Kubitzky at 5AD FM. macbeth's bodyguard were more than happy to use the services of Jeff Algra, Mike Boundy and Glyn Lehmann from Seven Stories and Rod Boothroyd from The Borderers to do some session work as well as being privaledged enough to have Alex from the The Borderers sing in a duet with Justin on the title song 'Sunrise On Wisdom'. Mike Boundy joined macbeth's bodyguard soon after the studio work was completed.
Besides gigging around the pubs and clubs of Adelaide, macbeth's bodyguard also performs at festivals such as the Victor Harbour Festival (where they were the only Australian act to perform on the World Music Stage) and their invitation to do so was justified within half an hour by the fact that they brought the audience size ffrom a half-filled marquee to a marquee with standing room only.
Due to the remarkably positive response given to the band by audiences and venues, macbeth's bodyguard have decided to perform more regularly and at a greater variety of venues.
